We live in a very different world than even a decade ago. And so does your organization, whether you run a business, a service organization or a ministry. Is your organization making effective use of social media? Is it integrated as part of your overall web and marketing strategy?
Not too long ago, we communicated primarily through print media – newspapers, magazines, books – and through broadcast media – radio and television – but since the turn of the 21st century, we have entered a new era… the age of what could be called digital convergence.
At the beginning of the 21st century, Facebook did not exist. Twitter was a sound a bird made. And YouTube , what in the world was that? Yet not one of these is yet 10 years old. And everyone knows about them and literally tens of millions of people use them every single day.
Facebook, a mere eight years ago,was getting ready to launch in February 2004. Currently, it has over 800,000,000 active members and more than 350 million active users currently access Facebook through their mobile devices!
YouTube was founded in February 2005 and currently has over 3,000,000,000 – yes, over 3 billion! – views per day. How popular is YouTube? 48 hours of video are uploaded every minute, resulting in nearly 8 years of content uploaded every single day!
Twitter is even younger than Facebook and YouTube, having begun in March 2006. Yet, like Facebook and YouTube, it has grown exponentially to over 250,000,000 tweets per day and over 100,000,000 active users.
